Superintendent's Message

The Santa Rita Union School District (SRUSD), located in the heart of the Salinas Valley, is comprised of approximately 3500 students from Pre-School through Eighth Grade.

Made up of four elementary schools, and two middle schools and a state preschool, all located within a five mile radius of each other, our district is characterized by rich cultural and linguistic diversity and a ‘home town’ feel evidenced by a warm, welcoming and caring community.

As Superintendent, I am proud of our 2017-2018 strategic plan, namely, the SRUSD Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for guaranteeing equity of access to all of our students to a high quality education.  Our LCAP has been very successful and has brought out the best in our community by inviting SRUSD to unite around our beliefs that the sole mission of the district is to offer every student a high quality education that assures each student academic proficiency.

SRUSD values its community:  School Board, District Leadership, Teachers, Parents, and Students.  All place significant value on the ability of SRUSD to successfully educate students within the context of a small, vibrant and fully engaged district.  The LCAP has been a catalyst for unifying the SRUSD’s vision around instructional excellence and academic achievement for all students.

The 2017-18 LCAP is a living document, an authentic action plan that outlines clear and effective strategies to improve the achievement of all students with a comprehensive focus on addressing the needs of English Learners, low-income and foster students.

As an end result of the Stakeholder Engagement process, SRUSD has developed three goals to support our primary focus on academic proficiency for all students, especially English Learners, low income and foster students.

  1. All students will have access to rigorous instruction provided by highly qualified teachers and supported by highly effective leadership with appropriate resources.
  2. All students will achieve academic proficiency through appropriate classroom placement, including strategic groupings for effective classroom based interventions to support full access to the common core state standards, rigorous instruction and socio-emotional supports.
  3. To significantly increase parent and community engagement to inspire them to be actively involved in preparing their students to be College and Career Ready and to reduce chronic absenteeism.
